Roberto Uribe is a Dutch-Colombian artist and architect. He has been selected in 2024 by an expert jury for the research residency at PACA «What about post-industrial? The future of nature in co-existence with post-industrialized landscapes”. A three-week research residency supported by the Dutch embassy in Spain.
Thanks to the financial support of the Dutch Embassy, we decided to continue the project during 2025 and culminate the research with the creation of an artist’s book. In this book, the artist Roberto Uribe can condense the ideas, processes, and results of the preceding fieldwork. The book is a script, an ever-open work, a dense, complex, encyclopedic horizon between reality and utopia, possible horizons, and counterpoints?
We are in flight. We are smelling the territory, tracing ideas, readings, connections, and stories. Art historian Juan Carlos Aparicio Vega is accompanying us on this journey. Through our conversations, we are anchoring the research and the resulting work to the recent history of Gijón, its industrial and mining past, and the regional landscape painting that marked the entry of Gijón and Asturias into modernity in the 19th century, with its changes in horizons and perspectives. The initial question of the call for proposals that Roberto won is always in mind: What about post-industrial? … and…. Where are we? Where are we going?
This post is just to let you know that we are working, and the project is continuing and adapting to possible contexts.
We plan to publish the artist’s book before the end of 2025. To mark the occasion, we will hold a public presentation in Gijón. We will keep you posted with details.
