Su proyecto editorial actual: Árboles Emocionales «es una guía para dibujar y escribir, una invitación a redescubrir la creatividad, libre de las exigencias que nos hemos impuesto. A través de los árboles en todas sus facetas, colores y formas, el libro esboza una filosofía que se centra en la alegría intuitiva del proceso creativo en sí mismo y en el placer de afrontar el mundo con la mente abierta«. «Árboles emocionales» deriva de las experiencias previas desarrolladas por Carmen Jose a partir de otro libro suyo publicado siempre por Rotopol en el 2025: «No sé dibujar un árbol», al que siguieron numerosos talleres conducidos por Carmen en Rotterdam y Kassel, elaborando herramientas y metodologías para un nuevo acercamiento a la naturaleza. De ahí surge la necesidad de esta nueva publicación a modo de guía práctica que aspira a convertirse en herramienta pedagógica para escuelas y comunidades educativas. Verá la luz y será publicada en inglés en marzo de 2027.
Mientras, esperamos con gusto a Carmen en PACA, para que pueda continuar dando nuevos pliegues a su proyecto y preparar materiales para una próxima exposición en Praga. Mentes ajardinadas haciendo mundos más amables. Estrechando ramas! Constelaciones creativas, plantas vagabundas, ser hoja, semilla, utopía trabajada.

Carmen José (1991, España) es titulada con Máster en Artes por la Kunsthochschule Kassel (Alemania) en Comunicación Visual, con especialización en Ilustración y Diseño Editorial. En 2014 puso en marcha, junto con Kathi Seemann, el proyecto Papiercafé, un espacio colectivo multifuncional dedicado a la autoedición y que también funciona como cafetería. En 2016 se incorporó a la editorial independiente Rotopol como coeditora y autora. Un año más tarde, en 2017, formó parte del equipo de Aneducation de la documenta14 en Kassel y Atenas (Grecia).
En octubre de 2018 se trasladó a Róterdam (Países Bajos) para realizar una residencia artística en la Fundación BAD y, posteriormente, en la Fundación NAC, en el barrio de Wielewaal, donde trabajó en una investigación experimental sobre el pensamiento crítico en la educación visual gracias a la beca de investigación O&O del CBK de Róterdam. En julio de 2020 puso en marcha, junto con Kamiel Verschuren (NAC), el Growing Space en el barrio de Wielewaal de Róterdam, un espacio cultural con forma de invernadero.
Entre 2020 y 2025 ha sido profesora e investigadora en los departamentos de Ilustración y Práctica Social de la Universidad de Arte WDKA de Róterdam. En 2022 cofundó y coordinó la residencia de artistas Lemon House en Kassel durante la documenta15 (junio-septiembre). Es cofundadora y organizadora del Festival de Ilustración de Róterdam junto con Rachel Sender y Michael van Kekem (2024). Actualmente es profesora de Comunicación Visual en el Máster de Arquitectura de la RAVB.
Her current publishing project, Emotional Trees, “is a guide to drawing and writing, an invitation to rediscover creativity, free from the demands we have placed upon ourselves. Through trees in all their facets, colours and shapes, the book outlines a philosophy centred on the intuitive joy of the creative process itself and the pleasure of approaching the world with an open mind”. “Emotional Trees” stems from Carmen Jose’s previous experiences, developed from another of her books, also published by Rotopol in 2025: “I Don’t Know How to Draw a Tree”, which was followed by numerous workshops led by Carmen in Rotterdam and Kassel, devising tools and methodologies for a new approach to nature. This has given rise to the need for this new publication, designed as a practical guide that aims to become an educational tool for schools and learning communities. It will be released and published in English in March 2027.
In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming Carmen to PACA, so that she can continue to develop her project and prepare materials for an upcoming exhibition in Prague. Minds shaped by nature, creating kinder worlds. Joining branches! Creative constellations, wandering plants, being a leaf, a seed, a utopia in the making.

Carmen José (1991 Spain) holds a Master in Arts by the Kunsthochschule Kassel (Germany) in Visual Communication with focus on Illustration and editorial Design. In 2014 she initiate together with Kathi Seemann the project Papiercafé, a multifunctional collective space for Self-publishing & Café. She joined the independent publishing house Rotopol as co-publisher and author in 2016. A year later in 2017, she worked as part of the Aneducation team of documenta14 in Kassel and Athens (Greece).
In October 2018 she moved to Rotterdam (Netherlands) for an artist residency at BAD Foundation and later on at NAC Foundation in the Wielewaal where she worked on a experimental research around critical thinking in visual education thanks to the research grant O&O from CBK Rotterdam. In July 2020 she initiated together with Kamiel Verschuren (NAC) the Growing Space in the Wielewaal neighbourhood of Rotterdam, a cultural space in the form of a greenhouse.
From 2020-2025 she has been a lecturer and researcher in the Illustration and Social Practice departments at WDKA Art University in Rotterdam. In 2022 she co-founded and coordinated the artist residency Lemon House in Kassel during documenta15 (June-September). She is co-founder and organizer of the Rotterdam Illustration Festival together with Rachel Sender and Michael van Kekem (2024). She is currently a lecturer for Visual Communication at the Master of Architecture in the RAVB.
